Lunamar La Paz...Where the desert meets the tranquil sea
|
|
Shortly after 9/11 I traded in my tickets to the Italian Riviera for a trip much closer to home, La Paz, Baja (the best-kept secret in Mexico). I had fallen in love with La Paz on winter vacations there and had always dreamed of owning "my own little beach cottage" there one day.

Little did I know that on that trip my dear friend Carmen and I would purchase an abandoned wreck of an unfinished home that I would build to become my dream vacation get-away: Lunamar...a 3-bdrm/3-bath trilevel with a million-dollar view of the Bay of La Paz and City lights. The best time to visit is from late October through early June when the weather is warm and mild but with pleasant evening breezes. December through February offers an opportunity to see the great gray whales migrate down to the bays of southern Baja.

| The hot parched land stumbles down to the sandy petticoat of an impossibly blue sea joining thirstily the two give birth to a city of harsh roads and gentle people who know the value of laughter and share it freely in sidewalk cafes and earth-colored homes growing modestly from the proud paternal desert Perched sphinx-like on her shoulder of the city Lunamar gazes in fond witness on the body below an elemental unity of earthen city, marine skies and azure sea Inside, her riot of blues and violets harmonize with terracotta, yellows and golds circle up her stairs in drifting arpeggios a pacifying paean to the harsh Aztec love of a life-giving Grandfather Sun Her visitors become her lovers all sense of time and life rearranged by her serenity her beauty (Kathleen Jalalpour)

The sweetest hour of the day, when the heat fades, the setting sun colors the sky and a cool breeze lifts the spirit...so whip up some margaritas and head for the 3rd floor "Happy-Hour" deck and offer a toast to the beauty that is La Paz...Or take a stroll along the Malecon at sunset - it's a La Paz tradition! Then stop along the way at a sidewalk cafe for a cold drink or dinner.

| LunaMar is now ready to welcome you for a relaxing stay...fully furnished with all the amenities of home. All you need to bring is shorts, sandals and swim gear for a day at the beach or a sunset stroll for dinner in a sidewalk cafe. The cuisine, fresh fish, fruits and not-so-spicy mexican fare, will please most palates. There are several great white sand beaches for swiming, kiyaking, snorkeling or simply reading a good novel under a palapa shade.
